What a surprise, another Ani album on Astrarium! You'd think I was
crazy about her or something. A friend of mine uses this album to
initiate the unfamiliar into Ani's particular brand of hardcore folk,
and it's perfect for that because every song on here is a
gem. "Overlap" has been one of my favorite love songs for a
while, but now "You Had Time" is quickly gaining ground. "Falling Is
Like This" is similarly beautiful in its simplicity. The electric
version of "Out of Range" seems just a tad redundant, but only because
the acoustic version earlier on the album has plenty of power on its
own as Ani decries the all-too-familiar cycles of repression. It's
amazing what that woman can do with her voice and a guitar.
just the thought of our bed
makes me crumble like the plaster
where you punched the wall
beside my head
and i try to draw the line
but it ends up running
down the middle of me
most of the time
"Out of Range"
you give me that look that's like laughing
with liquid in your mouth
like you're choosing between choking
and spitting it all out
like you're trying to fight gravity
on a planet that insists
that love is like falling
and falling is like this
"Falling Is Like This"
