This was the album that had just come out when I first started becoming
aware of Ani, and it's taken me this long to actually purchase it. Why?
Because the music on here reminds me of such a raw, emotional time in my
life that I've pretty much been avoiding it for all these years. But
now I can laugh instead of wanting to scream. Not that there aren't
plenty of tracks on this album for a young woman to scream along to,
should she find herself in the mood. "Untouchable Face" is exactly the
song that made me fall for Ani on the spot the first time I heard her
play live in Santa Cruz, while "Going Down" is almost trip-hop in its
lazy tranciness. "Joyful Girl" is my song, and tonight I'd like to
dedicate it to my boy in New York.
think i'm going for a walk now
i feel a little unsteady
don't want nobody to follow me
'cept maybe you
i could make you happy, y' know
if you weren't already
i could do a lot of things
and i do
"Untouchable Face"
you can't get through it
you can't get over it
you can't get around
"Going Down"
