In 1979 a group from Athens, Georgia, calling themselves the B-52's
released an album on which Fred Schneider was credited with piano,
keyboards, vocals, and walkie talkie. The rest is history. Yep, this is
the one with "Rock Lobster," but it also opens with "Planet Claire" and
has "Dance This Mess Around" as well. By the time I was a teenager these
songs were old enough to be classics at the same time that the music that
the band was creating at that time seemed to revel in the now seemingly
endless stream of retro nostalgia. However, I will never tire of hearing
Kate Pierson's and Cindy Wilson's voices together, or of Schneider's
endless sexual innuendoes. I also have to tell you, you haven't lived
until you've seen my old friend Robert karaoke "Rock Lobster." That's a
fact.
Ahhhahhhahhahh
"Planet Claire"
Remember when you held my hand
Remember when you were my man
Walk talk in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over, think it over
Roll it over in your mind
"Dance This Mess Around"
We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster
