Human Conditions
Richard Ashcroft
|
So relentlessly hyped the week that I was in London that I had to buy
it. Ashcroft doesn't exactly break any new ground for those familiar with The
Verve or his other solo work, but I fall for his big orchestral sound every
time. Just listen to those brass and string arrangements on the opening
"Check the Meaning," they set the tone for the entire album (though the rest
of the tracks aren't nearly that long). Melancholy infuses the gentle guitar
work on "God in the Numbers," and "Running Away" is similarly quiet. Enjoy
the hooks and try not to dwell too long on his philosophy.
