Going Driftless

An Artist's Tribute to Greg Brown. You get one guess about why I
originally picked up this album (her name begins with Ani and ends with
DiFranco). I certainly wasn't familiar with any of Greg Brown's music,
performed so beautifully here by an impressive roster of female
artists. It only took one listen, and I was hooked. Going
Driftless is absolutely sublime. Some of my favorites are Eliza
Gilkyson's "Sleeper," Shawn Colvin's "Say a Little Prayer," and of course
Ani's "The Poet Game." Now I need to start tracking down Brown's
originals, because this stuff brings on the good ache. If that weren't
enough, proceeds from this album benefit The Breast Cancer Fund of San
Francisco.
