Keep It Like A Secret
Built To Spill
When I was in England NME recommended Built To Spill's "In The Morning" as their Single of the Week, and I've been in love ever since. Built To Spill wastes no time on this album, plunging right in with the opening track "The Plan." The tracks are a lot shorter here than on the fabulous Perfect From Now On, but the band manages to keep the feel of their longer rambles intact in these more compact songs. On "Time Trap" the guitar gradually builds from a bubble to a roar before cutting out again in time for singer Doug Martsch to start intoning his wisdom. And I really appreciate the blast of jaunty pessimism that is "You Were Right."
