Ah hah! Steven Bernstein also plays trumpet in Sex Mob! It all makes
sense now. Two other Sex Mobbers are on this album as well, Briggan
Krauss on baritone sax and Tony Scherr on bass. Not that the two
groups sound anything alike, but they do seem to share a spirit of
creativity and experimentation. "Rock of Ages" starts with a spooky
organ line before the Latin percussion kicks in, while "Ani Mamin" is
propelled along by a meditative drum beat. "Dybbuk Dub" sounds like
it came off an album with tiki torches and drink umbrellas on the
cover. This is slick, mesmerizing, modern jazz.
