In Search Of...
N.E.R.D.
|
The hugely successful production team known as the Neptunes try their
hand at putting out their own hip-hop album, with excellent
results. It's also about a thousand times more interesting than most
everything going on in mainstream hip-hop, though not quite as good as
some of the stuff coming out of the Bay Area (I'm fiercely loyal to my
geographical area). From the first moments of "Lapdance" I found
myself totally seduced by N.E.R.D.'s grit and sleaze, while "Provider"
is about as tender as a song about abandonment gets. "Bobby James" is
also a notably soulful song in the voice of a junkie on the street.
Make sure In Search Of... is playing the next time you manage
to trap that certain someone on your couch, and just see what happens.
