Ultra-Obscene
Breakbeat Era
|
Invigorating drum'n'bass. This album is a collaborative effort from producer Roni Size, DJ Die (who worked with Size in Reprazent), and singer Leonie Laws. I could definitely draw a line from Size and Reprazent's album New Forms to Ultra-Obscene. Here the songwriting and Laws's voice are the focal points. I was hooked the first time I heard her sing the very sexy title track, not to mention the statement of independence and strength that is "Bullitproof." On "Anti-Everything" (their titles are so punk rock!) Laws spits out her lyrics while the music rumbles menacingly behind her. I admire this kind of intensity.
