Vostok 6
Kurt Swinghammer
|
Thoughtful progressive folk. Idiosyncratic Swinghammer has crafted a brilliant concept album dedicated to Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space. I know it sounds bizarre, but it totally works. "Nocturne" is a short piece that combines ambient sound with ghostly female voacals, while the title track "Vostok 6" is layered and funky, lots of bleeps and bloops with a dash of doo-wop for good measure. "Valentina" is a gorgeous 21st-century love song for the cosmonaut herself. A joy to listen to.
