I have to laugh at the Parental Advisory sticker on the cover of this
album. I think it must be for the cuss word or two Michael Ivey
throws into his raps, and maybe in 1992 a cuss word or two was
offensive. This music is great. It's a little bit soul, a little bit
hip-hop, a little bit alternative. Ivey has a lazy way of drawling
the lyrics on tracks like "Brand New Day" and "Better Days" that is
terribly sexy. Sometimes there's a live drum kit in the background,
sometimes an old-school breakbeat track. Whether it's layered over
scratching or an acoustic guitar, I could listen to this man's voice
all day.
