Late Night Final
Richard Hawley
|
Another one of the albums I bought in London that became readily
available in the states just a few months later. Hawley has played
with Pulp and the Longpigs, but this solo album has a wonderful
loungey feel to it. "Baby, You're My Light" is nothing but clear
tinkling melody, accented by the richness and warmth of Hawley's
voice, and when he sings "The Nights Are Cold" it doesn't really sound
like a complaint, more like an excuse to curl up under a blanket with
someone warm. "No Way Home" holds a delightful taste of deep American
blues, filtered through Sheffield. Not to be too melodramatic about
it, but this music soothes my weary soul.
