When Your Heartstrings Break

Though the title of this album suggests melancholy and heartache, the
songs are surprisingly cheerful indie pop goodnesses. Miles Kurosky
might have meant for his music to be ironic, but it's just so damn
cute. "Sunday Under Glass" starts out with reindeer bells, a deep
drumbeat, and an accordian before the guitar and the horns kick in,
while "Emma Blowgun's Last Stand" is a more laid-back spacey piece
driven by synthesizer and swoony backup vocals. "Calm Go The Wild
Seas" is one of my Perfect Songs, a blissful combination of poignancy
and gorgeous melody. It makes me sigh just to think of it. So much
good music comes out of San Francisco that I can hardly stand it.
