Calypso in New York
Lord Invader
I received this album from KALX when I sent them some money during their most recent pledge drive. Calypso in New York is tons of fun, and I admit there's little chance I would have picked it up on my own. Lord Invader is probably best known for writing "Rum and Coca-Cola," which I always knew as an Andrews Sisters tune (he sued them for plagiarism and won). No Coke on this album, but you get "Pepsi-Cola" instead. In addition to the joyful rhythms of the songs themselves, this release also includes the usual Smithsonian Folkways booklet of copious notes and backup material.
