Memoirs of Babur, Prince and Emperor. A present from Chris. It
literally took me six months to read this book. I kept having to put it
down to rest my poor tired brain. Babur, Emperor of Hindustan, ruler of
the Mogul Empire, lived from 1483 to 1530, and this is the story of his
life and his military exploits in his own words. It was really all of
the details of battle that did me in, too reminiscent of certain texts I
studied at length in their original languages for my degree. However, I
enjoyed reading about life at that time in Afghanistan, India, and
Pakistan, because wherever he went Babur would always take some time to
appreciate the countryside and its people. Both a warrior and a poet,
Babur's voice became oddly comforting to me, but I think that's just
because I spent so much time with it. Perhaps this book is better
browsed than read end to end.
