A gift from Carol and Dan. When Cath's husband Bailey is diagnosed
with Alzheimer's disease, she goes to work as an executive
speechwriter on Wall Street to make enough money to pay for his
medicine and care. As she circulates among the all-male execs, she
tries to keep her liberal thoughts to herself until she meets a
kindred spirit on her smoke breaks who seems to think that financial
disaster is imminent. Cath tells her story matter-of-factly, but
between the shit she has to put with at work and the tragedy of her
declining husband it's enough to make your heart ache. This all
sounds really dire, but Jennings's narrator has a streak of dark humor
(and more importantly, poetry) in her soul that carries her through.
